Charcoal Sketch, St.BenedictMount Saviour Monastery

July 2000

News:
The Roman calendar indicates the feast of St. Benedict on July 11th.  Like many European monasteries, we celebrate St. Benedict on March 21st, corresponding to his death.  This charcoal sketch if by Fr. Alexis Foyo.  He also sells other framed sketches (11 X 12) for $60.00 each: Head of the Virgin, Head of Christ and The Virgin Holding the Dead Christ.  Fr. Martin and Br. Raphael attended the 1200th anniversary of St. Meinrad at the Archabbey.  On July 21st, the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, The Most Rev. Frank Griswold, spent a few days retreat. Five monks took some time during the month to visit their families.  The hay harvest was late but abundant.

Summer Program 2000Summer Program:
We were blessed with the presence of 6 young men who were very faithful to the schedule and the community activities.  They spent many work hours in the orchard under the direction of Br. John to trim the infected fruit trees.  The picture shows them with some of the monks: on the second row, Matthew Kozak from Philadelphia PA, John Loncle from Rochester NY, James Groff from Woodbury NJ, Carlos Fernando Diaz-Paniagua from New York.  On the last row, Mark Kutolowski from Brockport NY, Fr. Bill Sneck SJ who helped with the program and Kyle Smith from Lexington KY.
