Starling on Mount Saviour Steeple           Mount Saviour Monastery

                                        November 2000

News:
Some starlings paid us a last visit on our steeple before going south.  All Saints Day is like a Sunday here.  For All Souls Day, the community and guests visits the cemetery after None to remember our departed.  In the middle of the month, Matthew Kells, a former summer student, was here with two partners to videotape the monks and our surroundings.  He is preparing a tape to show the life at Mount Saviour.  He made many visits in the past year to interview and capture the season; now he is ready for the tedious task of editing.  We celebrated Thanksgiving with the guests and enjoyed the traditional dinner in the common room.  The following Saturday, we had a violin recital by Yavet Boyadjiev, Cuban, who played difficult pieces by Bach.    At the end of the month, Abbot Luke Rigby from St. Louis was here to meet Fr. Martin and go together to Weston Priory for their regular visitation.

Coming Events:
Blessing of the Creche on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24th: Vespers at 6:00 p.m. followed by the blessing in the crypt.
Lecture Series: Sunday, January 28th at 4:30pm, AmoryHoughton .  Since 1987 he has been Congressman from the 31st New York District (which includes Elmira). Before going into politics, he had served as chairman of the board of Corning, Inc., and as director of the Episcopal Theological Seminary.  He will talk about his experiences and his hopes for the future.

We wish you a
Merry Christmas
