Mount Saviour Monastery
April
2007
News:
On April 1st., Fr. Martin and a few friends of the monastery
attended the New York Emmy Awards ceremony in New City because our
video, The Everyday had received three
nominations: Best religious documentary, best audio and best
photography. The evening started with great excitement when they
presented the first category, best audio. Matthew Kells, Sean P.
McGinn had work hard on the project and they were rewarded with a
second award: best photography. The video was shown many times on
most PBS stations in our state.
The Holy Week and Easter attracted a large crowd of guests for this
important feast of our liturgical year. It was followed by the
arrival of our first lambs on April 13th. Two days later, four
inches of snow covered our fields and we had to improvise special
maternity wards to accommodate the ewes that could not wait to
deliver. At the end of the month, 200 healthy lambs were running
in the fields. We were blessed with few problems of birthing and
no visit by predators.
On April 20th, Br. John Thompson attended a workshop on Behavioral
Assessment of Candidates in Plymouth MI. On the Week-end of April
27th, the Ithaca Loaves and Fishes Group were here for their annual
retreat and invited the monks for an ice cream social.
Our Dedication Day letter was sent to the
printer and will be mailed in May.
Fr. Carl Arico gave
a lively lecture in the chapel on contemplative and centering
prayer. There is a renewed interest in this area for this ancient
form of prayer.
