Priest , Monk and Painter.

This series of works has been done in the Romanesque style of manuscript illumination.  Although  at first glance, they may appear to be icons, actually they are not.  There are certain stylistic differences which upon closer comparison become apparent; the main point of difference being that in the Romanesque school, there is a conscious effort to portray the emotions of the subjects depicted.

CrucifixionAll of these works have been painted with oils on paper and extensive use have been made of gold-leaf.  The object of the use of gold is to bring the beholder into a dimension which stands outside of the normal perspective of time and space, and provides a gateway to enter into the timelesness of God's presence.  It does not seek to deny reality, but rather to present reality in the light of God.  For this purpose, the luminous quality of gold proves to be the ideal medium.

The Crucifixion Framed 9 X 11, $250.00

The colors used, also serve an important role and are rich in meaning.  For example, the blue of the Blessed Virgin's mantle represents the power of the Holy Spirit overshadowing her while her red tunic stands for the fire of God's love within her heart.
