Monthly News – June 2025

We welcomed a knitter’s retreat here for the first weekend of the month. A sample of their work can be seen in the accompanying photo. Their handiwork was graciously donated to the Gift Shop.

A well-attended memorial Mass was held for our dear neighbor and oblate, Marie Colucci, on the 7th. Brother Pierre was hospitalized the same day and for the next 10 days from a tick bite that resulted in a bacterial infection. Recuperation time could take up to several months. Father Michael Perry arrived late in the day to substitute for Father Don for several days.

June is a month when we celebrate several solemnities. The first was the Feast of Pentecost on the 8th, followed by Trinity Sunday on the 15th.

On the 16th, two donated Service Berry trees were planted on the chapel lawn in memory of Tom Smith. Tom was a former Finance Committee member for the monastery.

Another solemnity: The Birth of John the Baptist on the 24th. The temperature reached 96 degrees in a string of four days, all in the 90’s. We woke up to discover our water reservoir, which holds 90 thousand gallons of water, was empty due to a leak that had gone undetected. Fortunately, we have alternate wells that we can switch to.

Two more solemnities, the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the 27th and Saints Peter and Paul on the 29th, rounded out the month.
