Monthly News – May 2026

We started the month with Father Don taking a well-deserved two-week break. We are incredibly grateful to Father Michael Perry, who generously stepped in to cover for him while he was away. Father Michael celebrated Mother’s Day on the 10th by inviting all the mothers at Mass up to the altar for a special, heartfelt blessing.

We were also blessed with the company of two vocational candidates this month. Adam arrived on the 11th for a week-long visit. A bit later, on the 22nd, Christopher arrived to begin a month-long observership, living alongside the brothers. We ask that you please keep both of these men in your prayers as they discern their paths.

The next day, the 23rd, was our annual sheep shearing day. Mother Nature didn’t make it easy for us—it was cold, wet, and incredibly windy! Thankfully, we had a roof over our heads to keep the rain off, but we couldn’t escape the damp chill. Just as the day’s work was winding down, Father Gregory, OSB, arrived from Farnborough, England, catching the very last of the action.

On Sunday the 24th, we celebrated the Solemnity of Pentecost, which officially wraps up the Easter season. It also marked the last day we wear our prayer cowls until Advent begins in the late fall. The next day, we observed Memorial Day, welcoming the unofficial start of summer.

Finally, we closed the month by honoring a dear member of our extended family. On the 30th, we held the funeral Mass and burial for Sarah “Chali” Govantes, who passed away on the 19th at the blessed age of 92. For 30 years, Chali and her husband, Enrique, lived just down the road in our farmhouse, and she was a mainstay in our business office for many years. Chali was truly beloved by everyone she ever met. Now reunited, may they rest in peace.
