The month began with five consecutive days in the 90s, reaching a high of 98 on the third. We observed a holiday schedule on the Fourth of July with an indoor picnic out of the sun.

The Orein Artist Group was here from the sixth to the twelfth and fortunately enjoyed cooler weather. This was the first of two week-long sessions scheduled for this summer, with 12–15 artists per session. https://orein.org/arts-residency

Brother David Steindl-Rast celebrated his 100th birthday on the 12th during a period of prolonged celebration. Brother David is recognized globally as a pioneer in Buddhist-Christian dialogue, studying Zen and working with leaders like Thomas Merton, the Dalai Lama, and Thich Nhat Hanh. He also co-founded Grateful Living (grateful.org) to promote gratefulness as a source of living well and finding peace. https://osb.org/2026/07/19/benedictines-mark-the-centenary-of-brother-david-steindl-rast-osb/
We returned to mid-90-degree weather by mid-month. Father Don took the opportunity to take some time away, while Franciscan Father Richard Crawley took over his duties for two weeks.
A large group of Salesians arrived on the 18th for a week-long retreat. It has been some time since we had five or more concelebrants every day at Mass.
Brother Bruno made a quick trip to New Hampshire with the wool from our sheep to be processed, returning the next day.
On the 24th, Brother Christopher was involved in a hit-and-run auto accident while out walking. We ask for prayers for his full recovery and for the driver of the vehicle.
