Monthly News – September 2026

We celebrated Labor Day as we always do—as a work day. We commenced mowing the fields, not for hay, as we already have enough stored for the winter, but to prevent them from becoming overgrown. Painters also put in significant labor this month, touching up peeling paint on several of our buildings.

We also welcomed and celebrated several other events within our community this month:

·         September 9: Helen and Joseph Hanek made their final Oblation as Oblates in the chapel crypt.

·         September 11: Approximately two dozen members of a Marian group from Wellsboro joined us for Vespers and Compline, sharing a bagged meal in between.

·         September 23: Jim Wall officially joined the ranks of the Oblates after making his Oblation.

·         September 25–27: We hosted a weekend retreat for a group of 22 students and staff from Nazareth College.

As the month came to a close, the temperature dropped into the 30s. We turned on the heat in the cells as we slowly transitioned into the fall season.

We have included photos of the newly Blessed Fulton Sheen, who visited us when he was bishop of our diocese in 1967.
