Mount Saviour Monastery
October 2013
News:
A new roof on St. Joseph's guest house was the largest expense this
season: $21,500. On Oct. 8 and 9, Sr. Pat Hudson addressed
the community on the topic of child abuse and its ramifications.
Her training in psychology and her involvement with the clergy, especially
in the Brooklyn diocese, enabled her to have good insights on the problem.
On the 16th, the Prior went to Syracuse for an oblate meeting
of the friends of the monastery in that area. We were lucky with
the weather conditions and we needed to turn on the heating system only
on the 20th. On October 29th, the Prior attended a meeting
of representatives from monasteries of the east coast at the Abbey of Regina
Laudis, in Connecticut. The orchard was very active in September
and October with a record crop: 18,400 pounds of apples. We sold
over 2,000 pounds of top quality apples in the Shop. Br. John
and his team made 750 gallons of apple cider. We were able to give
away over 1,000 pounds of apples and fruits to the local Food Bank.
