Mount Saviour Moanstery
March
2007
News:
On March 3rd, Abbot President of the Cassinese
Congregation, Timothy Kelly and Abbot Melvin Valvano arrived to conduct
the regular canonical visitation. "Visitation is the personal
evaluation of a monastery by authorized
representatives of the Congregation in order to assess monastic life
and observance, to stimulate growth, to aid in the correction of
deficiencies, and to assist the local community in the solution of any
problems." This event occurs every four years or more often if
need be.
On March 16th, we had our only second snow storm of the winter.
On the
fourth Sunday of Lent, we continued our custom of singing Vespers at
Grace Episcopal Church in Elmira. We shared a meal and ideas with
our hosts and some of the friends of the monastery joined us for the
event.
During the month of March, The Friends
of
Mount Saviour are studying the book Called
to Participate by Mark Searle. Each Sunday, a guest
lecturer makes a presentation to enable fruitful discussions. Fr.
Martin, Rev. Han van dne Blink and Dr. Patricia Schoelles, ssj,
will be followed by John Boler in April.
Dr. Patricia Schoelles, ssj, president of St. Bernard's Institute.
