Mount Saviour Monastery
December 2017
News:
A new face to start a new month. Br. Isaiah Dwyer, a solemnly professed
Missionary of Charity brother on leave of absence, arrived on the 2nd to
discern a possible monastic vocation with the community. He began his journey
as the community began its own journey through a new church year with the
season of Advent. On the 3rd, Br. Justin received word that his younger
brother, Leonard, had died in Sierra Leone while helping villages to build
irrigation systems. On the 6th , Fr. Darr Schoenhofen moved out of St.
James in order to begin his new assignment with the Syracuse Diocese in
a parish in Binghamton. Brothers John and Luke accompanied Br. Stephen
to the oncologist on the 7th where he decided to allow his esophageal cancer
to take its course, declining radiation and chemotherapy. Please keep all
of the preceding individuals in prayer. On the 8th, Br. John and the formation
team, Brothers Isaiah and Mark, took advantage of the solemn feast day,
to partake in an outing to explore our local Corning Museum of Glass before
the special Tiffany glass exhibit ended. Br. Antonio, far from his native
country of Mexico, was nevertheless able to attend a special Mass and celebration
in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe about an hour's drive away on the 12th.
Br. Gabriel was the representative for the community at the New York City
Oblate meeting on the 14th. New members are welcome. We also received an
early Christmas gift from Br. Bruno's busy bees with the arrival of 990
lbs. of honey that was extracted from the bee hives this year. On the 19th,
Br. Dominic Savio returned from seminary for his winter school break but
not a break from winter weather. For the Nativity we had just enough snow
to be able to call it a white Christmas before we proceeded to go into
a deep freeze for the remainder of the month. Br. Antonio escaped the freeze
as he left for a home visit to Mexico on the 26th which is the same day
the Servants of the Word group from Michigan arrived for their traditional
year end weekly visit with us.
