Mount Saviour (March 2018)
Mount Saviour Monastery
March 2018
News:
A storm on the 2nd of six to seven inches of snow gave us a preview
of the wintry month to come. Br. Gabriel returned from the New York City
Oblate meeting on the 3rd as did Br. Savio from the seminary in Boston
for his one week spring break. On the 11th, the entire resident community
was able to attend the annual outing to Grace Episcopal Church in Elmira.
This is a tradition which has been observed for over 30 years now. There
we prayed Vespers and Compline and enjoyed a festive meal with their community.
On the 14th, Fr. Michael Perry, recently retired from the Brooklyn Diocese,
arrived to assist Fr. Don with sacramental duties for a couple of months.
Two solemnities, St. Joseph on the 19th and the feast of our Holy Father
St. Benedict on the 21st, broke up our Lenten fast but not our hearts.
On the 25th, Palm Sunday, Br. Savio returned again briefly, this time with
his abbot and another confrere from their monastery in Ava, Mo. in tow.
Because Br. Savio can drive he was able to assist them in driving to Buffalo,
then New York City, before his return once again for the beginning of the
Triduum.
The weather service on the 28th observed that the month of March was
running colder than the month of February! On Holy Thursday the Mount
was enveloped in fog and rain all day. That scenario continued through
Good Friday with some flurries thrown in as well. We end the month with
a ray of hope on the brink of the Resurrection. A blessed Easter to all!
