Mount Saviour Monastery

April 2018
News:
April began with the celebration of Easter and the joy of the Resurrection on the 1st with what was described as our smallest ever turnout for the Vigil. Following the 5:00 a.m. ceremonies all in attendance were invited into the monastic refectory for a celebratory brunch. On the 4th, friends and community were shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden and unexpected death of Br. Justin Young due to a massive brain hemorrhage, the second death of a community member this year. A large contingent of family and friends attended his funeral Mass in the chapel on the 12th. Although it was a day of sadness, it was also a time of joy because Br. Justin believed in the Resurrection and knew that one day he too would arise 'For in You all find their home.'  One of the many tributes that we continue to receive reads: Br. Justin has left us with such an impression of Christ in the world within each of us. His smile and joyful spirit certainly never wavered. Moreover, we can imitate his example. That would set the world on fire. Please remember Br. Justin, his family and friends in prayer.

Mount Saviour General Hospital for our pregnant ewes was set up and was in readiness on the 14th. However, none of the moms were in a hurry this year and the first births waited until the 18th when a set of twins was delivered. On the 20th, we were surprised by the birth of a black sheep, an occurrence that does not happen very often.

By the start of the third week of April, we seemed to have turned the corner on the winter that did not want to end. There is no more snow on the ground or in the upcoming weather forecast! An interesting general news note on the 22nd in case you missed it: the last known person born in the 19th century, died in Japan at 117 years of age. Time marches on.
Speaking of time marching on, Br. Mark made his first profession of monastic vows on the 24th, the eve of his name's day of Saint Mark, so we celebrated the two occasions together.
