Mount Saviour Monastery
April 2019
News:
We have been enjoying an early spring that has remained mild through
the month. The last vestiges of winter snow that could be seen on
our property melted away on the 2nd. There have been no snowstorms to replace
it. Yet. At the beginning of the month, there were numerous activities
to prepare for this year's lambing season. The sheep were brought in to
the barn area for birthing on the 13th just in time for the first arrival
on the 14th. On the 16th one mother delivered twins, one of which was a
black sheep which for us is an uncommon occurrence, and probably for the
new mom too!
Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil were well attended.
The Vigil began at 4:30 a.m. and by its conclusion around 7 a.m. There
were 80 ' 90 people in attendance. About 60 of those joined the community
afterward for breakfast in the large refectory. He is Risen!
Lawn mowing commenced in earnest on the 25th which is the same day Br.
Michael applied the first spray to the fruit trees in the orchard. Br.
Savio who was with us for a two-week spring break returned to school on
the 26th to complete his last few weeks of seminary work before graduation
in May. We were delighted to have Abbot Anselm Atkinson of Pluscarden Abbey
in Scotland with us for a few days at the end of the month. Our 'Scottish
Blackface' sheep are a familiar sight to him as they cling to the barren
crags on the hillsides back home. On the final day of the month, Brother
Pierre informed us that the number of new lambs born so far this month
stands at 121 and climbing.
