Mount Saviour Monastery
December 2019
News:
The
first of the month was the First Sunday of Advent which began the new liturgical
year and also ushered in another early winter storm. Only seven brave individuals
from outside the monastery made it to our Sunday Mass. On the 8th Br. Dominic
Savio, who left us this summer when called to his new Vietnamese foundation
in California returned with two religious sisters for a short visit. One
sister who wanted to see snow was granted her wish. She liked the snow
but not the cold that went along with it. On the other hand our two new
Livestock Guardian Dogs who have settled into their duties seem quite happy
with both snow and cold.
We celebrated the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on the 9th
due to the transfer of the feast this year. The following day Brother Bruno
made the final trip of the year with sheep to the auction house in New
Jersey. On the 11th Cestir Regalado, 32, from the Philippines arrived and
began his Postulancy three days later. He completed his observership with
us this previous summer. Please remember him in prayer as he discerns his
vocation with us. Brother John of the Cross, who had been in the same class
as Brother Dominic Savio in Vietnam, was able to return from seminary studies
on the 16th to be with us for Christmas.
The blessing of the Christmas Creche and Vespers by candlelight on the
24th brought out a big crowd. We had a much smaller gathering of guests
and monks for our very festive Christmas dinner after a well attended Christmas
Mass. Brother Antonio left the next day for a family gathering in Mexico.
Arriving was several Servants of the Word from Michigan. When they are
with us, they use their individual talents to help with various projects
around the monastery for which we are most thankful. On the 28th those
who were able to join us enjoyed an evening of singing Christmas carols
accompanied by Clare Gonta on the piano. That brings us to the end of 2019.
Happy New Year and Decade to all!
