Mount Saviour Monastery
April 2020
News:
On the 30th of March, after missing the first two Offices of the day,
Br. Antonio was discovered in his cell disoriented and obviously not well.
He was rushed to the hospital and required urgent surgery for a brain hemorrhage.
This was a similar situation that led to Br. Justin's sudden death two
years ago this month. The day after surgery Br. Antonio was talking and
able to move all his extremities. We were notified his recuperation was
several days ahead of schedule and the hospital was already looking to
release him. Thanks be to God there are no known lasting physical effects
from his hemorrhage or surgery. After convalescing in the monastery infirmary,
he has since rejoined the community for prayer and meals.
The community was able to celebrate the Triduum and Easter Vigil, though
in abbreviated form and without the public, thanks to our two chaplains.
Daily Mass, Offices and general routines continue as we maintain social
distancing and strict hygiene protocols. Br. Luke employed his sewing skills
and with the help of You Tube made face masks for each member of the community
for necessary trips outside the monastery.
The lambing season is on schedule and in full swing. Our first two lambs,
blackface twins, were born on the 16th. The mothers this year are averaging
close to two births apiece as there have been multiple sets of triplets.
By the end of the month about 120 lambs had been born with about thirty
more mothers to go. The two new Livestock Guardian dogs in the meanwhile
are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing by keeping them all
safe from predators. And they know enough to give the new mothers an extra
wide berth when the mothers stomp their feet and challenge their presence!
As of the end of the month all guest retreats previously scheduled have
been cancelled through the month of June. No new reservations are being
taken at this time. The guest houses, chapel and gift shop remain closed
until further notice. When that situation changes we will post notice on
our web page.
We miss all our friends, benefactors and oblates and wish everyone a
Blessed Easter. Please know that we continue to pray for you and for the
multiple extraordinary situations the world is presently challenged with.
