With the warming weather fans were brought back out of closets and
strategically positioned in the refectory and chapel. Dehumidifiers were
started up as well as the temperature reached into the 90's on the 21st.
Brother Gabriel returned to the monastery from physical rehabilitation
on the 27th. He took a fall last month as a result of an inner ear infection
now cleared up. He is in our infirmary area for now and is participating
in our Offices and meals as he scoots along using a walker to get around.
The first round of sheep shearing commenced on the 28th. The sheep
may have preferred holding onto their coats until warmer weather. The day
was described as dreary by the weather service as it was unusually cold
for this time of year and rainy throughout the day. Fortunately, much of
the action took place under cover. Plus the cooler temperatures are much
more comfortable than hot weather as the sheep congregate together waiting
patiently to be shorn. Sort of like how it was while waiting in lengthy
lines during the rush to get the Covid-19 vaccination. The next day was
more of the same from 8:30 ' 5 pm. About 110 ewes were shorn with their
pelts hung up to dry wherever a place could be found to hang them. The
ewes and lambs seemed very happy to be reunited at the end of the day and
the dogs happy to have all the commotion at an end.
