Bishop Bambera next to a sculpture by Br. Dominic Savio
On the 10th the community and guests had the joy and special privilege
of having Bishop Joseph Bambera of the Scranton diocese celebrate our Sunday
Liturgy. Afterward, Father Don was able to spend time away from the monastery
as he tries doing each year after Labor Day. Several volunteer priests
covered for him as celebrant the following two weeks.
A vocational candidate from the Bronx arrived on the 13th and spent
time living in and with the community. Robert is scheduled to return in
October for a months' stay as an Observer.
Another vocational candidate who was with us earlier this year flew
in from San Diego on the 27th. In a simple ceremony after Vespers, he was
received as a Postulant and became our most recent candidate in formation.
Br. John, Br. Ramon and Br. Pierre
Brother Bruno returned from a 16 hour round trip to New Hampshire on
the 29th. He delivered three years of wool that had been sheared from the
sheep. Some wool will be sold, and the remainder processed. The processed
wool will return to us for sale in the gift shop in the form of yarn or
to be incorporated into other monastery products.
The feast of the Archangels on the 29th is the names' day of our Brother
Michael. The community closed out the month with a festive recreation that
night in his honor. Father Michael Perry joined in the celebration as it
is also his name's day and the anniversary of the day he became an Oblate
of Mount Saviour.
