News:
Tomatoes,
tomatoes everywhere, or so it seemed. Such is to be expected after planting
more than 120 multiple varieties. After the sauce, salsa, salads and sandwiches,
several trips, nevertheless, had to be made to our local food pantry with
the superabundance. Some years it has been apples instead but this year
the apple trees took a rest.
The feast day of the Exaltation of the Cross on the 14th each year ushers
in the beginning of our monastic lent. That entails another meatless day
without desert which will carry through until regular Lent begins.
On the 18th, Brother Gabriel needed attention after becoming dehydrated
at Sunday Mass. Everything checked out fine after a though going-over at
the hospital. He was back with us the following day.
On the 20th, 100 pounds of cassettes, Cd's and reel-to-reel tapes were
mailed out. Our hope is to make Reverend Father Damasus' talks available
through the internet next year.
The furnace was fired up for the first time this fall on the 24th after
the temperature dipped into the 30's. It was supposed to be furnaces, plural.
Parts will be ordered for the second furnace. Hopefully all will be operating
before the real cold weather comes and stays.
Brothers Michael and Mark retrieved the grime removed and stabilized triptych
from the conservators on the 28th by way of a rental truck with lots of
padding. It has been rehung in its former location behind the tabernacle
in the crypt. The triptych has taken more than three years to return to
us in part because of delays due to the pandemic. Some folks thought it
had been stolen but it back safe and sound(er).
The last day of the
month occasioned the first frost of the season and the blessing of the
triptych.
